It's Saturday! 19 January

Today, I woke up at 8am in the morning. After washing up, I went down to the food court near my house to eat breakfast. When I returned home, I immediately used the computer to do my Design and Technology homework. After completing it, I changed into my outing clothes as my father was bring me to Tampines Mall to buy New Year clothing.

We ate lunch at the food court in Tampines Mall. My father bought a bowl of curry chicken with a plate of rice while I bought a hotplate black pepper chicken rice set. The hotplate black pepper chicken rice tasted heavenly. After eating lunch, we went to Isetan to buy New Year clothing but most of it were too big for me and the only that I could wear cost forty-six dollar.

As I needed to buy New Year clothings, we went to Century Square to see whether we could find any New Year clothings. At the second floor of the departmental store, "BHG", I managed to find clothes that cost twenty dollars for two sets of shirts. As the shirts looked good, my father bought two setsof shirts for me.

When we got home, I immediately went to the toilet to wash my shoes. After making sure that they were clean, I went back to work and completed my Maths and Science homework. As I completed all the homework that was needed to be handed up next week, I started to assemble a gundam model kit which I bought last year in Hong Kong.

As the box shows, the gundam which I assembled was called "Aile Strike Gundam". It was the first high grade gundam kit in the "Gundam Seed" list. There were many parts inside the box.

There were many small parts which had to be put together to form a bigger part. For example, sixteen small parts which were put together to form the gundam's leg.

After putting small parts together for fifteen minutes, I managed to assemble the gundam's arm and abdomen.

After another five minutes, I managed to assemble the main gundam body.It looked a bit bare and ugly.

After five minutes, I finished assembling the gundam's backpack and put it onto the gundam.

When I finished assembling the Aile Strike Gundam, My father called me to stop as we were about to go out for dinner. We went for dinner at the Katong Shopping Centre as I wanted to do a bit of research on Katong for my OPWS project.

I found the shops inside Katong Shopping Centre being arranged in an untidy manner. There were many LAN gaming shops and maid agencies in the Katong Shopping Centre. I ate a plate of samba chicken fried rice for dinner. It was so spicy that I had to drink a whole can of cold drink so that my tongue would cool down. After dinner, we returned home. I had a great time today. I hope that I could have more time to assemble more gundam model kits.

My Unlucky Day, 18 January

Yesterday was my most unlucky day in this week. In school, during the Literature lesson, I could not catch up with what Ms Tan had said. When I asked her about the poem I had chosen for the Literature multi-media project, she asked me whether I understood the poem or not. She also asked me whether there was enough literary devices such as rhyming words, alliteration, assonance and metaphor. She asked me those lessons so loudly that I felt embarrassed.

When Literature was about to end, someone sounded the fire alarm. However, the speakers in my class were not working well, therefore, we could not hear the announcement made by our principal, Mr Low. We lined up in twos and climbed down staircase 6 calmly and made our way to the field. When we were about to reach the school field, everyone stopped to make way for two students on wheelchair so that they could enter the school field. At the school field, it was revealed that the whole thing was a fire drill exercise. While waiting for our class to be dismissed, Aaron picked up some small black things that he found on the ground and threw it around. Most of it hit me and I threw it back at him. Finally, when my class was dismissed, I saw most of my classmate holding handfuls of those black things and throwing it at each other's face.

When we reached the class, I realized that it was already 20 minutes past our dismissal time. Without eating anything for lunch, I immediately ran to Mr Chia's office to do my last one hour detention. During that one hour, I finished my Literature homework and finished a mind map for my Design and Technology homework. After finishing my one hour detention, I tried to enter the disciplinary office but it was locked. After asking a cleaning lady to help me search the staff room for Mr Chia and Mr Marran for a while, I gave up searching for them as there was practically no one in the staff room.

After waiting for 15 minutes for them to appear, I felt very fed up and helpless as my bag was inside the disciplinary office and I could not go for my Chinese Orchestra practice as my flutes were beside my bag in the disciplinary office. I was very upset as I was supposed to go and perform at the Madarin Gardens but I had learned only one song out of the nine song to be played at the performance. I waited there for one and a half hour outside the disciplinary office before going to the general office to find out where they were. The staff in the general office only told me that the teachers were having a meeting which would only end at 4.30pm. I went around searching for them and finally found them at the "AV Room" having a workshop meeting. I was not sure whether I should enter the "AV Room" as I did not want to interrupt their meeting. Luckily, I found a teacher outside who was making a phone call. She agreed to help me and Mr Chia passed her the key to the disciplinary office.

Create Your Own

After she opened the door to the disciplinary office, I thanked her and signed out before grabbing my bag and rushing to reach the classroom where the woodwind section was having the practice. My section leader asked me why I was so late and I told him the reason. After hearing it, he told me that Da Bo and I were not going to perform at the Madarin Gardens as we were too lousy. After practicing for 2 minutes, it was time for break and I rushed down as I had not eaten lunch yet.

It was 4.30pm at that time and I felt very hungry. Unfortunately, the drink store was not selling any cup noodles as there was a lot of burgers left. I bought one of the burger and ate it as fast as I could before returning for practice. When I reached the classroom, I realized that one of my flute had dropped onto the floor and a part of it was chipped off. Luckily, the flute was not really damaged.

When Da Bo returned for practice, I asked him to return me the music notes that I lent him but not only he did not return it, he also kicked a chair at me. Right at that moment, the instructor told us that practice was over and I ran to the Chinese Orchestra room for debriefing. After debriefing, it was already 5.45pm and I went home. But the day did not end there. My father scolded me for being so late as I was late in picking up my sister. I hope that this will not happen again.

Singapore Polytechnic Open House, 13 January

Yesterday, I went to the Singapore Polytechnic open house with my family. When my father told me about it in the morning, I was reluctant to go as I thought it would be boring and I should go 2 years later, when I am a secondary 4 student. I felt that my father was too "kiasu" (afraid of losing) as his objective was to let me know how hard I need to work in order to enter the Singapore Polytechnic.

On the way to the Singapore Polytechnic or SP for short, I fell asleep in my father's car. I was amazed by the size of SP as it was huge compared to Victoria School. We entered SP through gate 3 which leads us to the staff centre.

In the staff centre, I saw a swimming pool which was closed for maintenance. According to the students, the swimming pool was filled with mineral water instead of chlorine water and both students and teachers are allowed to use it for free. I saw a club having its weekly practice in the staff centre.

In their canteen or better known in SP as food court 5, I found KFC and Pizzahut. I also found a Popular bookstore and a travel agency near food court 5. The fast food sold at KFC and Pizzahut were cheaper than the ones sold in outlets in shopping centres.

There are escalators and lifts which not only lecturers are allowed to use, students are allowed to use too. There is even a MRT station right at the doorstep of SP. It is sad that in Victoria School, students are not allowed to take the lift without permission from the teachers.

When I reached the convention centre, I saw many students giving away goodie bags and free ice cream to the visitors.

There were many students playing table soccer outside the convention centre.

In the Spinnovex exhibition, many projects that were made by students were exhibited there.

Out of all the exhibitions, the few interesting projects that captured my attention was the flight simulator, the mechanized rubbish chute and all the robots exhibited there. There were many robots in the spinnovex, such as wall climbing robots, robots that play soccer, sumo robots, a band comprising of robots and robots that dance.

After we left the spinnovex, we went to food court 3 for lunch. The food there were cheaper and more delicious than the food in Victoria School.

As SP was too big, we had to take a tour bus to get from one end of the campus to the other.

We went to the Moberly Hub in SP. It was revealed by the our tour guide that many students go there during their free time to chat and have fun. There are table soccer machines, pool tables, LAN gaming, karaoke lounges and many other facilities for students to use. However, most of them cost $1 per hour to use.

Next, we went to the optometry centre where students taking "Diploma in Optometry" course study. It is also used to provide free eye check for students. It is open to public but charges $5 for the eye check. I was surprised when I heard that students taking the "Diploma in Optometry" course would receive a year supply of disposable contact lens for free. I wonder what they are going to do with the contact lens if they do not need them.

When we prepared to go to the School of Business, I saw something dangling about from a tree. I noticed it only when it was millimetres away from my face. It looked like a caterpillar, albeit an orange one.

At the School of Business, we learnt how people in talk shows or broadcasting news remember what they have to say. They will look at a screen slightly above the camera to see what they have to say. There will be someone who will control how fast the words scroll across the screen. I even got the chance to enter the "director's room" and see how the director observe the filming of talk shows.

I had a great time at the Singapore Polytechnic open house. I hope to study there after graduating from Victoria School. However, to go there, I must put in more effort in my studies, especially my English and my Chinese.
